Ded na si Lolo: Ded in the Water

I would love for this film to be selected and be one of the nominees for Best Foreign Language Feature at the Oscars in 2010!  But. But it was just OK for me.  Some scenes made me laugh.  Some scenes made me cringe.  Some scenes were heart felt.  More scenes were lost to me.  It’s [...]

Worst Night at the Museum

A ton of stars.
Can’t save this film.  Good thing it doesn’t look like there’s going to be another movie in this franchise.
Amy Adams played such an annoying Amelia Earhart, I almost couldn’t stand her.  Hank Azaria didn’t do much better with his lisp-y delivery of an ancient Egyptian ruler.
Ricky Gervais could have been played by [...]

Drag Me To Hell and back again

It’s rare that I would see a movie twice.  Not that this one was really nice.  Well it was to me- very interesting and funny and horrifying.  And according to rottentomatoes.com, it’s pretty fresh.  So when a group of friends scheduled to watch it, I decided to go again.  And apart from cringing on my [...]

Amazing Race: Time Space Warp

James Kirk is back.  Looking younger and more bad-boy-like.  And running around space trying to save Vulcan and Earth which become targets of vengeful time-lost miner.  The story is nice because it gives the viewer a lesson in how to provole a Vulan half-breed- by letting him lose his Earthling mother when his whole planet [...]

Amazing Race: Vatican

Tom Hanks is back.  Looking older and more professor-like.  And running around Vatican trying to save Cardinals and a Camerlengo who turns out to be a superhuman helicopter-pilot-cum-parachute-r surviving bumps and crashes among various Vatican architecture and a “super-tattoo”.  The story is nice because it gives the viewer a lesson in how a Pope is [...]

Wundertwins: Ryan and Dan

I should file this under Amazing!  These two are amazing!  And according to their website, their second studio album, Silence Speaks, will be coming out soon.  I just followed them on Twitter.  But I can’t wait to see what songs they will be singing in their next CD.  In the meantime, let’s listen through their [...]

We watch-ed The Watchmen!

I didn’t catch the comic book series when it originally came out in 1986/1987.  When I started collecting a few DC titles in 1989 or so, Watchmen was already a critical hit.  23 years later, I would see the movie version and wow!  I heard that the director used a lot of the comic book [...]

Not so divine Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah

It was ok.   Started out with dark light and glowing space crafts.  Very creative.  But the audio was atrociously inaudible (an exaggeration, I know, but it’s theater- big movements, big voices, big everything!) even for group songs which was weird.  I was sitting right smack in the center, four rows from the stage and I [...]

No doubt about it

I have not seen the play.  But this movie is terrific!  Riveting performances throughout the narrative.  Starring one of my favorites, Meryl Streep, plus Phillip Hoffman, Amy Adams, and the amazing, snot-dripping Viola Davis, the movie is set in a Church/school where Hoffman is the pastor, while Streep is the principal.
Trouble ensues when Sister [...]

Avid Listener: The Reader

Ah, love (read: short-lived seasonal romance)!  You move in mysterious ways (read: sick).  Still, exciting.  Why, look at teen (read: horny) Michael who finds a generously helpful (read: read me a book, will have sex) lady friend after throwing his guts up at her driveway.  Nothing can make a lad want to go to school [...]
